A source close to the pair told PEOPLE that the breakup was “not mutual” and had left Mortimer feeling “blindsided.”

“She’s on the floor heartbroken and devastated. She left everything for him because she didn’t think he’d ever call off the engagement,” the source said, referring to Mortimer moving to Chicago in 2020 to live with Kluth and exitingRHONY. “She trusted him that this time was going to be different.”

Another source told PEOPLE that Mortimerfought hard to save her relationshipwith Kluth.

“She moved her entire life and left her career for Scott because she truly thought this time it would work. She gave everything to this relationship,” the source said. “She fought to make it work, but he fell back into his old ways of constantly breaking up and getting back together with her. It was an endless cycle.”

Mortimer was previously wed to Robert Livingston “Topper” Mortimer from 2002 to 2010. During their marriage, she was famously part of New York’s early-2000s socialite culture, which was later examined in the 2023 Hulu documentaryQueenmaker: The Making of an It Girl.
