Star warfare : The Bad Batchreturns for time of year two on January 4 , once again following a team of specialized clones contend back against the Empire that throw out them .
Season one endedwith the Empire destruct the Clone family on Kamino ; in time of year two , Hunter , Echo , Wrecker , and Tech , along with their blighter clone Omega , are a squad without a home . They mustcomplete dangerous missionsjust to last out alive , all while Emperor Palpatine and his evil Empire continue to snaffle custody of the galaxy .
To mark the juncture of time of year two , io9 spoke with Star war : The Bad Batch ’s head writer and executive producer Jennifer Corbett as well as executive producer and oversee theater director Brad Rau about the outlook and end run low into this time of year . No spoilers here .

Germain Lussier , io9 : So when you began planning and prepping time of year two , what were your fully grown end and aims right at the kickoff ?
Jennifer Corbett : I opine the bountiful theme for this time of year is coming to a crossroads in terminus of all the characters , and we search that in various episodes with various power point of view . We wanted to — as the Empire is growing and , as you recognize , other things are changing throughout the wandflower — see how that affects the Batch and Omega , and both internally and outwardly .
Brad Rau : Also , we created a bill poster to give to the fans at Star Wars Celebration and the tagline we put on it was “ Long road ahead . ” We wanted to see the Batch , all of them , including Omega … they ’re not living high on the hog . They ’re a little threadbare . They ’re a lilliputian scramble up . They ’re sample to stay off the Empire ’s radar . They ’re live on gig to gig . We wanted to bug out there and show whatever they do , it ’s rifle to be tough travel . There ’s definitely a slew more to figure out .

io9 : Because you ’re an alive show , not every episode is ooze with mythology . There are lots of military action - packed , side - mission episodes . Talk about how you equilibrize that over the course of the time of year — is there any kind of specific ratio episode to episode ?
Corbett : I mean , it ’s all about building the road , essentially , and have everything establish upon the other episodes . And it was all very designed where we ’re exit in time of year two . But we had to verify that we had episodes that explored some merriment and we had some adventure . And also that gave us an opportunity to research our Batch more and glow a light on Tech and Echo and Wrecker and Hunter and really sort of allow them the opportunity to grow as specific mission sort of connect to them . Whenever you deal with the Empire , it sort of becomes a with child thing . So we just require to make certain as we were building to a bigger report , we had other episode that were pass towards that .
io9 : see a lot of these new episodes , I pick up what seemed to me like references from a ton of other pop culture — The Dark Tower , Indiana Jones , Godzilla — which is sure as shooting a staple of Star Wars . Are those references measured or is it just bake into you as film producer ?

Corbett : Well , usually before the writer ’s group discussion , we have pre - conference meetings where we ’re talking about the next mickle of episodes and the stem that we desire to hit and what are things we have n’t explore yet . What lesson are they determine ? So that ’s talked about way in advance . But we root for inspiration from many movies and many TV shows — and it ’s also like , how do we make it different ? And why is it serving our tale ?
io9 : Obviously this is Star Wars so you ca n’t and wo n’t spoil anything — but , at this moment before the season start up for fans , what do you hope they take off at the end of the season ?
Rau : You know , one thing that was really fun was to see through the season , our star of the show , Omega — to see her produce and learning , not just automatically , but failing . We did that a lot in time of year one , but we really dig into how that works in season two . And , if we ’re doing it right , we see her arc correctly in front of your eyes as an audience through the action she does , through the thing she says .

Corbett : I think for me , it ’s the idea that if you may aid someone , you do it . Even though you ca n’t save everybody , you taste to do your best . And I recall that ’s a hopeful message for this show and just hopefully the humanity in general .
io9 : Last thing . Do you two bang , at this instant , where the Bad Batch is during the original trilogy ? I ’m not asking if we see it , just if you two hump .
Corbett : [ Laughs ] That sound like a spoilery question .
Rau : We ca n’t give that away .
