It ’s been 30 year since the Space Marines — the ever - pop lead of Games Workshop ’s grimdark Warhammer 40,000 universe — first deck the tabletop biz . To celebrate three 10 of big guns ( and even bigger shoulderpads ) , the troupe is releasing a gorgeous model of the original Space Marine aim .
The classic design — jokingly call a “ Womble Marine ” by fans , its cone-shaped helmet resemblingthe stop - motion starsof the 1970s British Thomas Kid show , The Wombles — first appeared in the pages of Warhammer 40,000 : Rogue Trader , the original rulebook for the tabletop scheme game . Over the years , as the series get in popularity , the Space Marine ’s armour design evolve , leaving the humble Womble Marine behind .
Until now , that is . To celebrate , Games Workshop are releasing a special single model of the “ Imperial Space Marine ” , packed in its own fancy presentation box . It ’s still a Warhammer 40 K manikin , so you have to put it together and paint it yourself , but in add-on to the framework , you get the rules to practice it in the current Warhammer 40 K rule set . There ’s also a small pamphlet looking at the design ’s story and the evolution of the Space Marine army ( the most popular junto in the tabletop game by far ) over the last three decade .

You ’ll have to act chop-chop if you need one though — the Imperial Space Marine ( which , in true Games Workshop way , will typeset you backa whopping and derisory $ 30for a individual model ) will only be usable in extremely limited quantities on April 16th and 17th , in Games Workshop stores and online .
