PATRICK ECCLESINE EXCLUSIVELY FOR VANITY FAIR
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the past day, it’s that life is too short,” shetoldVFphotographer Patrick Ecclesinebefore the spontaneous shoot at her New York hotel.
“I’m about to launch an album that finally represents who I truly am. How do I embrace this new chapter in my life? How do I really walk the walk? What does it mean to be confident? It means letting go, being authentic, saying I don’t give a f—, and this is who I am,” she added to the photographer. “I want to show the side of me that’s real, that’s liberated, that’s free. What if we do a photo shoot where it’s totally raw? Super-sexy, but no makeup, no fancy lighting, no retouching, and no clothing. Let’s do it here, let’s do it now.”Having struggled with eating disorders for years, “I would have never thought that I would have ever gotten to a place in my life where I could feel comfortable [posing nude],” Lovato said in aVanity Fairvideo.
“It’s empowering, and it shows other women that you can get to a place where you can overcome the obstacles of body-image issues, and you can feel comfortable and confident in your skin.”
The “Cool for the Summer” singer opened up to PEOPLE last month about her inspiring new self-acceptance.
“It’s extremely important for me to even embrace my body and my sexuality with showing more skin – I think it’s great,” Lovatotold PEOPLEat the Samsung Hope for Children gala.
“I went from being in a place where I was suffering from an eating disorder and hating every single inch of my body to now baring my legs and showing more skin in front of the whole world and being proud of my body instead of loathing it,” she said at the time.
