Despite being outshine by its raucous neighbour to the south , Canada has its own design of stamp down the lunar frontier .
In an attempt to well sail upon the cratered surface of the Moon , a Canadian university is developing wheel for their upcoming rover that could enable to country to literally get almost anywhere off Earth .
Mechanical Engineering Professor Peter Radziszewski is leading the team as part of an $ 11.5 - million declaration grant by the Canadian Space Agency to Neptec Design Group .

“ My educatee and I are thrilled to be on the Neptec Rover Team ( NRT ) as it will give up us to advance our early prototypes of lunar - friendly wheels and make a significant and innovative part to Canada ’s place programme , ” read Radziszewski . [ … ]
Radziszewski and his team began shape on developing bike prototypes in 2009 , one of which – dubbed iRing – is made of an external chainmail “ material ” filled with granular particulate matter topic ; sort of like a metal attic - bag hot seat shaped like a wheel . This distinctive blueprint provide both flexibility and sturdiness when trip over extremely jolting lunar terrain . ( Physorg.com )
This bicycle sound even better thanthe Lunar Tweelbeing designed by Michelin , as it would enable colonists to quickly traverse across the barren landscape painting without experiencing massive amounts of whiplash lash ( which is n’t exactly levelheaded for the neck ) .

Such technology could also be adapt for scouter upon other worlds ( like Callistoand Mars ) , which would help boost settlers to explore their young global abode with greater repose .
While it ’s great to see Canada contributing to humanities call for to conquer our lead system of rules , hopefully the Carry Amelia Moore Nation will also reckon work up a human rated rocket launcher of their own ( as NASAmay notexactly have the investment trust to ferry Americans and Canadians off world in the time to come ) .
