For a zep almost only defined by his aversion to firearms , Batman seems to bend his rule a fortune : eventhe late Batmobile has some immense cannon on the front . It ’s not the first time he ’s sophisticate it , and it wo n’t be the last – but here ’s just a survival of the fittest of meter Batman has taken fancy to theweapon of the foeman .
7. Golden Age Batman – All the Damn Time
It ’s a well sleep with comic book fact that in his earliest stories , the Batman was a very unlike fictional character to the one we know and love today . He was indurate when it come his enemies , andwasn’t afraid of killing them . He was also a train marksman as well , using either guns of his own orones pluck up from his foe , as tools of distraction or to belt down or maim someone . It ’s a remarkable antithesis to the Batman of today , the character Batman has been for almost his entire cosmos , which is why it ’s such a pop factoid . But it ’s also kind of a half - truth , which it ’s why it ’s at the top of this tilt .
Batman as we really know him did n’t really start to form untilDetective Comics # 33 , which is when we first see Batman ’s defining consequence , the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne . Before that , Batman was basically another interpretation of popular pulp iconThe Shadow – and the use of guns was n’t really a Batman thing but an element pick up from The Shadow and other pulp hero like him . It would n’t take long after Detective Comics # 33 for the character we know to begin to get develop , particularly his potent stance on guns . So whilst it ’s the democratic era to charge to whenever you cite Batman and gun , it does n’t really count . That does n’t mean there are n’t plenty other examples to select from though .
6. The Batpod – The Dark Knight/The Dark Knight Rises (2008, 2012)
You ’ll acknowledge a running theme in this inclination – whilst it ’s rarer for Batman to pick up a grease-gun himself , he ’s decidedly not afraid of slap a bunch of them ( and some even more explosive weaponry ) on his many vehicles . Christian Bale ’s Dark Knight was sure no exception to the rule .
The Batpod of the Nolan trilogy came to the full equipped with a readiness of machine guns and cannon , and although Batman does n’t in reality kill anyone with them , he does utilize them to smash railroad car and rubble out of his path during the bridge pursual sequence in The Dark Knight ( it ’s a wonder he does n’t actually vote down anyone with the damn thing , the amount of stuff he bodge up ) . And although we never see Batman defeat someone with them , they ’re definitely lethal weapon – during the culmination of the last film in the trilogy , Catwoman shows up on the Batpod at the last minute to shoot Bane , kill him . ( Evenmaking a cunning remark on Batman ’s ‘ no gun ’ rulewhile she ’s at it . )
5. Batman: Year Two (1987)
At times Batman is so delimit by his refusal to employ guns , writer ca n’t help but play with the theme of the fibre falling so low he picks up a gun with the intention to kill – and sometimes , those melodic theme give us completely outre and dull scenario like Batman : Year Two .
Written by Mike Barr , Year Two sees Batman face up off against another Gotham Vigilante , The Reaper – who unlike himself , is n’t hesitating to remove criminals and use firearms . After facing off against The Grim Reaper and scarcely relieve oneself it out alive , Batman come to believe that the only fashion to outfox the vigilante is to fall apart his code and get a hired gun of his own , so he roll up a Handgun from Wayne Manor . Not just any side arm though , the actual pistol used to kill his parent .
Wait , what ?

It flummox more absurd ! After having made an opposition of Commissioner Gordon , Batman team up with Gotham ’s reprehensible elite group to take down The Reaper once and for all – and being a bunch of criminal dickhead , they decide that Batman has to work together with Joe Chill , the strong-armer who mangle his parent ( ! ? ! ? ) . Batman plan to mesh in a bit of spectacular irony and execution Chill with the handgun after dispatching the Reaper . It does n’t work out that way however – The harvester kill Chill before Batman can , and the two engage in a brawl that ends with The Reaper go down to his death ( did I advert The Reaper also happened to be the father of the charwoman Batman gets engaged to in this story , too ? AS IF THERE WASN’T ENOUGH GOING ON ) , and Bruce decides to build up the guninto the basis of the Wayne Foundation , so it can never be used again . Comic Books !
4. Mitefall – Batman: The Brave and The Bold (2011)
Here ’s another bit of a curveball , one that ’s so fourth - wall damp it threatens to turn over out and slap you in the font .
The final ever episode of the dearly missedBatman : The Brave and The Bold saw the all-powerful fifth - dimensional being Bat - Mite seek to get the show cancelled ( like I said , quaternary - wall break to the extreme point ) in position of a grittier , darker Batman cartoon . Bat - Mite try on a variety of methods to alter the show enough for spectator to switch off , finally culminating in him force Batman to soften his cardinal rule by giving him two handguns . And also Scrappy Doo as a married person , but there you go . It ’s a somewhat cool direction of subverting the trope really , considering it ’s being given the guns that makes Batman gain he ’d never desire to break his code ( and thus foiling Bat - Mite ’s design ) , but it just die to show the interesting elbow room author can use bending the rule to tell a good news report .
3. The Batmobile – Batman (1989)
Another vehicle , another set of heavy guns and explosive weaponry ( Do you think Batman has a clause in his no gun rule if he attaches them to a vehicle he come about to drive ? ) . The 1989 Michel Keaton Batmobile come fully equipped with two Browning Machine Guns , which whilst are n’t shown being used against people , are used to shoot apart a room access and crucify away other rubble .
Although they ’re not gun , the Batmobile also comes equipped with some implausibly potent dud – which pretty obviously obliterate the Joker ’s henchmen in this clip from near the end of the motion-picture show when Batman destroys the Axis Chemicals works , controlling the Batmobile via remote . So he does n’t practice the triggerman lethally , but so much for not kill your foeman , huh Batman ?
2. Final Crisis (2008)
Once again , the Batman of the comic books pick up a gun – but unlike Year Two , Final Crisis is a portion less bizarre ( even if it is all about the death of reality itself , and features Barack Obama as an alt - verse Superman . Once again , Comic Good Book ! ) .
to defeat Darkseid before he use up all reality , Batman breaks his own code and plan to shoot the immortal with a bullet made of Radion – a stuff fatal to the New Gods – to make unnecessary the twenty-four hours , sacrificing himself in the process . Although it ’s a mortal wound , and batman does pull out the trigger , in reliable Batman style he does n’t pip to toss off Darkseid instantly : He hits him in the articulatio humeri , ensuring Darkseid ’s last but not out right kill him . Even in his last moments in the story , Batman flex his no - gun principle to make an exception .
1. The Batmobile (again) – Batman: Arkham Knight (2015)
Okay , so this one has n’t taken home yet , but the newfangled Batmobile for Rocksteady ’s upcoming Batman plot is so patently pathetic when it comes to weaponry , I ca n’t help but admit it .
The damn thing has a separate battle style that turns it into a Tank .
The Modern Batmobile boast a 60 mm Cannon , a Vulcan Gun , Anti - Vehicle rockets , and , presumably to soothe Batman ’s conscience , a stun gunslinger . One out of four is n’t too bad . If you thought Batman V. Superman ’s Batmobile looked soup up , this one ’s something else .
